Every residential proxy seller claims to take an ethical approach. But time and time again, we see those claims don’t hold up under independent investigation.
With other providers you get “consent” gained through a giant TOS document nobody ever reads. Or a bullet point promising “social accountability” without specifics.
We’re not satisfied with the half-measures taken by other providers, and don’t think you should be either.
Why We Care
Ethical usage & acquisition is the right thing to do, period.
As Conscious Capitalists, we believe that there is never a good reason to violate the trust of any stakeholder who does business with us (whether or not they’re a customer). Any conceivable short-term gains are always lost in long-term consequences.
Ethical usage & acquisition is the right thing for our users
By only acquiring proxies we know we have the right to use, we protect our users from sudden shutdowns, legal action, or other interruptions to service that buyers of unethical proxies have experienced.
How We GetProxies
Here are the three sources from which we acquire residential IPs:
Pay The Pool Directly
Cash Raven is the downloadable app that allows us to pay users directly for use of their device’s IP address as a proxy.
Our software ensures that devices are ONLY used as proxies if all three of the following are true:
• the device is connected to WiFi
• the device is not in use
• the device is either plugged in or charged to at least 50%.
Anyone letting us use their address as a proxy has the option to opt-out at any time, no questions asked.
Compensate The Pool With App Features
Through our developer SDK, we pay app providers to give their users a premium service if those users allow us to use their device as a proxy.
Though customers are not necessarily paid directly through this method, they get other benefits as determined by us and our developer partners.
Customers are informed of exactly what their device will be used for and given the same opt-in opt-out consent options as Cash Raven users.
Resell From Partners Who Share Our Values
From time to time, we may resell proxies from other providers. These providers are thoroughly vetted to ensure that they meet our standards.
Currently, we are only sourcing from vendors who compensate their end users in exchange for their bandwidth. No hidden terms – users are signing up because they WANT to earn money.
How We UseProxies
You can read about our full detection, prevention, and response policies for making sure our proxies aren’t abused here. If you’re in a rush, here are the highlights:
Vetting Users
All residential proxy users must complete a short trial and application process before we sell them residential IPs. The trial consists of 50 MB, which we feel is enough to test the product but not enough to implement any sort of malicious attack.
Following this, customers must complete a rigorous KYC (“Know Your Customer”) background check if we suspect their use case, behavior, or volume of proxies purchased of being leading indicators of abusive usage.
We also outright forbid the use of our proxies with services we deem high-risk, such as authentication servers or financial institutions.
Monitoring Usage
Once you have proxies, we use a mixture of manual and automated monitoring systems to check for any potential abuse or unauthorized access.
Our automated systems have been trained on billions of proxy connections over our years in operation and automatically alerts our team to “grey areas” or immediately shuts down access for dangerous use cases.
We monitor all never before seen domains and the rate of access to prevent DDoSing before it can happen.
Total Privacy Compliance
We collect no personal information from users who consent to using their device as a proxy – all we use is the IP address.
We collect no personal information about our users unless they volunteer it, such as during the KYC process for buying residential proxies or as part of a Rayobyte Story. We always inform users of how their information will be used before collecting it.
We remain fully committed to complying with all relevant legal statutes relating to data protection, including (but not limited to) the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018.
