How can beginners choose an investing platform without being distracted by flashy features?
I’m comparing online brokerage platforms for long-term investing and occasional trades, but the choices all advertise zero commissions, instant deposits, fractional shares, and attractive mobile apps. What should beginners examine more carefully, such as account security, hidden costs, available investments, tax documents, transfers, and educational tools, before moving real money into a new financial account?

Security deserves as much attention as the trading screen. I’d enable two-factor authentication, use a unique password, check account recovery procedures, and confirm how unfamiliar activity is handled. It’s also worth understanding which protections apply if a brokerage fails, since those protections generally do not prevent losses caused by falling investments.
